I’m not going to limit this to “man noises” because that wouldn’t be fair – even though that’s where the inspiration for this post was seeded. It also wouldn’t be fair because I have been known to make a baby water buffalo noise when I’m really comfortable and struggling to get out of bed.
You know the noise – it’s the quietish groan that accompanies stretches and comes from a place somewhere between your nasal passage and your throat. It’s raw and animal and guttural and you can’t always prevent it from seeping out of you.
Or maybe, like my friend Stacey’s husband, you make noises before you go to bed. Maybe you clear your sinuses with that pre-loogie haucking (?) noise and follow it up with the throat clearing?
What is that? Do you do it? Waking or falling asleep? What noises?
