It totally doesn’t suck that my drive to work is 10 minutes on a bad day. It also doesn’t suck that I can roll home every day at lunch to get my grub on over a little ER/Judging Amy/West Wing/What Not to Wear, or that I spend little or no time in rush hour and can easily avoid the interstate altogether if I want to.

The down side is I’m just being lazy, I’m pissing money away on petrol and I’m killing the environment. Did I mention lazy? Did I mention I’ve gained 14lbs since November? If I didn’t, it’s because I’m deeply, deeply ashamed.

Want to pick a fight and ask me what I’m going to do about it? You just want to wrestle, I can see it in your eyes. No love for you, but I’ll tell you anyway, you sassy little prankster!

I’m going to start rolling in on two wheels M, W, F and walking in on Tu and Th.

Full on bonus b/c the rockin’ company I work for still thinks it’s the little things that makes employees worlds go round and we have a phat gym on campus to compliment the pool and ping pong and foosball…so I can do all that sweating under the cover of morning dusk-age and tidy up after I hit the campus gates.

Sure, it’ll mean a little shift in process from blogging - instead of doing it in the morning over coffee while half asleep I’ll doing it the night before or as in days gone by or (gasp!) from my desk before my day begins in earnest.

So, starting next week it’ll be “here goes nothing” in a whole new way. Wish me luck, safe roads and patience as I adapt.

Congratulations on your decision to cycle to work, Maigh. It is great that your office has the facilities to freshen up after your morning commutes. My office has the same set-up too so a bunch of us get to take advantage not driving a car to work.
Every other Friday we have “Bike to Lunch Day”. That seems to help keep the workers who have too far to ride to work happy and pedaling.

Was the 14 lbs added to improve your wrestling performance?

The 14lbs was actually to help improve tips at my night job…

    Maigh,
You have made a wise decision. Keep it up and you will be ready for this come late fall.

BTW, wrestling and good looks aren’t necessarily mutually exclusive ;)

    You are so cool.

  8. Mmmmm, cyclocross… I’m not sure how I’m going to blow my first post-doc paycheck: HDTV or cyclocross bike. Tough call.

But since you’ll be on wheels on Fridays, you should come ride the next Critical Mass.

Nice work… I like what you’ve done there. It’s the very best way to wake up and you get more than one exercise session in each day. bonus. woohoo.
