There’s a 4 day self paced introduction period prior to the first “real” boot camp at the park. Enrollees are given a list of twelve choices for homework assignments over the course of the month long camp, and on non camp days you’re expected to pick one of the twelve and post your results on their site.
This morning my choice at 5am was an experiment with my fitness and my self discipline. Neither of them showed up.
75 jumping jacks, plank for 25 seconds, shake out arms (no resting) then lather-rinse-repeat 5 times. Not as easy as it sounds when you’ve been sitting on your couch feasting on a steady diet of Velveeta, M&M’s and Mr. Pibb for two years.

This is gonna hurt.

Hint for knee pains: gluts and abs need to do more of their share of the work. Concentrate on the core issues.

Okay, so you gotta splain this Boot Camp theory to me. I’ve seen them in the park when I’ve motivated myself out for a morning run, and what I’ve witnessed was basically your typically ROTC morning drills. The most complicated equipment I’ve ever seen out there are orange cones for dashing around; maybe I’ve seen some medicine balls or ropes, too, I don’t really have great attention to detail that early in the morning. Yet when I had a friend contemplate doing one of them boot camp things a couple years ago, I discovered that for all of this free-crap-lying-around calisthenic goodness, one pays an exorbitant crap-ton of money, compared to the standard monthly fee at a typical lots-of-fancy-equipment-not-just-grass-and-screaming-assholes gym.
So, honestly, is the main point of the cost of Boot Camp to be some kind of financial incentive to get your ass out of bed and to the park, when you’d never do it had you not just thrown a paycheck at them? Is it like that Stephen King Cat’s Eye movie where they make you quit smoking by putting your spouse in a shock room if they catch you cheating? Where does this money go?

@ shelbinator (good to “see ya”) - you’ve got it kinda right. Here’s some back story that should address some of (not all) your questions. The others I’ll have to respond to tonight. http://www.maigh.com/2007/09/06/sick-of-my-own-hit/

Question, who ran the boot camp? I designed the old site for a bunch of people called Train Strang last year, worst 4 weeks of my life, and I didn’t even go to boot camp

@ Shelby: the short answer is you pay for the coach. If we had the self discipline to do this shit on our own, we would. And yes, for me part of the motivation is spending the $. If I’m coughing up that loot, I better work my ass of and make it worth it.
@ Greg: it’s not them, but I feel ya.
