I hear this more and more, it seems:

“I’m just touching bases with you to see blah blah blah…”

Your turn. I’ll widen the berth to include words that aren’t words, but people use anyway.

Go.

    A couple come to mind.

#1 favorite: “For all intensive purposes…”

A close second: “We’ll need those financial statements for the last physical year.”

You’ve been tagged! http://how-rude.blogspot.com/2008/03/middle-name-meme.html, but you don’t have to do it if you don’t wanna.

    Irregardless

Too many others for me to catalog.

    Maddening, innit?

    BASICALLY
    The new “um.”
As my daddy used to say, “that just jacks my jaw” everytime I hear it.

Is it “For all intents and purposes?” Although I’m quite sure most people say “all intensive purposes.”

the phrase “you’ve got your work cut out for you” has always bothered me. i mean it’s supposed to be a negative thing, like you’ve got a lot of work to do and it’s gonna be hard. to me, though, if someone has already got the work cut out for me, then it should be easier, right? i’m not very good with scissors.

“supposively”…… that always gets me. And maybe it is a Southern thing…”innit” that is. I admit that it is part of my vocabulary at times.

@megs I always hear folks say “supposably” which is *really* nonsensical.

This work needs to be “flushed out”. Do they not realize what they’re saying??

Dang it! Irregardless was on the tip of my fingers when I was drafting this but I just couldn’t latch on. And oooooooh if I hear one more person start multiple consecutive sentences with “basically” in a meeting…well nothing will happen. I’ll be sitting there imagining them Barbie sized, flicking their foreheads.

“Just look at it as a challange.”, when more work is given to you by your supervisors.
